Inside 43215: Downtown Lifestyles

PANT PANT PANT

An admission: pets are for other people.  Yes, the doggies and the kitties are dear, sweet things, but they require food and love and veterinarian services.  No, thank you.

Then again, even the biggest stonehearted Grinch will discover things to marvel at inside Lots to Wag About (405 E. Mound Street).  It’s a brand new shop that features fabulous finds for pets.  Owner Marcie Radell explains, “I like to search for unique items that you won’t find anywhere else.  For instance, I have two lines of hand-made leather and vinyl collars and summer t-shirts that were printed right here in Columbus with a Columbus theme.”

Well now… that’s extremely cool.

Radell knows pets; she’s a vet tech, so she’s really interested in stocking items that keep animals healthy, like organic pet foods and interactive toys.  The tech is actually a transplant to Columbus with an interesting observation about our trendsetting city.  “I’m from Rochester, NY and it’s very interesting to see that other cities like Rochester are using Columbus as a model for their own downtown revitalization.”

Since when does New York look to Columbus for cool?  Since now, it seems.

With the construction of a downtown dog park and plenty of pet-friendly living space, maybe there is a little room around here for a dog.  Suggestions?

Where is this downtown dog park that we have in Columbus? I hope this newest specialty pet shop has not only organic food and skin/coat treatments but also reasonable prices to commit to using them all the time, not just as a novelty or gift.

All-natural and organic foods have definitely gained in popularity, but I don’t really believe it to be a trend or a novelty. I just think since the pet food recall, we’re learning more about what goes into our pets’ foods. Food should not only be something our pets enjoy, but something that is healthful and beneficial for them too.

Having worked with animals for over 10 years and being a true animal lover, I really am concerned about their health and well-being and nutrition is a big part of that. So to address your concern, I have a number of foods representing a wide range of prices. I am recommmending quite a bit lately, Premium Edge and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul. They are both great foods made with good quality protein, fruits, vegetables, no artificial colors or preservatives, and they are both at a good price point.

I’d love for you and Shaggy to come by the store and see for yourself!

I love the items this shop carries… collars and clothing you don’t ordinarily see around. Where do they find this stuff? I like the fact that Lots To Wag About is conveniently located in an area of downtown that has ample free parking right in front of the store (no meters = more treats can be bought and I don’t have to walk more than a few feet to my car when carrying a heavy bag Canidae).
