Inside 43215: Downtown Draw
SHOPPING VERSUS BUYING
Shopping online is great. No parking problems, no people problems. You can look, look, look for hours on end.
Of course, the buying part is less fun. It takes one click to say goodbye to your money, then two weeks of out-of-stock notices and screwed-up shipping charges.
Thank heavens we’ve got the best of both worlds here in Downtown Columbus. Stay online and shop all you want, look around. When it’s time to buy, hike on over to one of these neighborhood stores who sponsor these Web sites…
B-1 Bicycles has a Web site that’ll give you a feel for the store - its commitment to the biking lifestyle and its creative spirit (check out Big Dummy). When it’s time to buy a bike or accessory, make a B-line to B-1 at 124 E. Long St.
For cat-lovers, the phrase that pays: Springy Worm Catnip Toys. Found at lotstowagabout.com. Found in person at Lots To Wag About at 405 E. Mound St.
We were offered bribery to keep the fabulous Cj Daniels a secret… but hoarding is a mortal sin. Take a peek at the unbelievably awesome shirts that can be found downtown: look at cjdaniels.com. Then go get ‘em at 108 E. Main St.
Granted, you can’t really shop online for massage therapy. It’s definitely an in-person event. Still, you can learn about the magical Kimberly Jones and Take Ten Body Therapy in our archives. You’ll find her gift certificates at 116 N. High St.

I can’t wait to browse the handmade crafts at some of the upcoming craft events for some delightful holiday gifts for my friends and family. I also like to order online and obsessively track my packages until they arrive at my doorstep.

I have 2 favorite stores in Downtown Columbus. The 1st one has just recently closed. It was The Childrens Place. I have worked downtown for 18 years. My oldest son is 15 (youngest is 5) and I used to buy baby clothes for him there. My best friend and I used to do a lot of Christmas shopping on our lunch hour at the City Center too! My other favorite store is Chet’s Jewelers! The women that own that store are the sweetest ever. I have shopped there periodically since I started at Ohio Bell (now AT&T) in 1990. I love the small family owned businesses.
Please add me to the drawing to win High School Musical on ice tickets.

I like shopping at the Columbus Convention Center…The Buckeye Connection in particular! Go Bucks!

Be sure to see the HUNTINGTON TRAIN DISPLAY—we see it every year and it is great. The lobby of the bank is a great space also.

For holiday stress, nothing sounds better than taking advantage of the services at Take Ten Body Therapy.

I love to go to the Peanut Shoppe on High Street Downtown! It’s like stepping back in time. It reminds me of going to the candy counters at the big department stores when I was a kid. I love to take my 12 year old niece there - and she would love to see High School Musical on Ice too!

Yankee Trader, just north of the convention center, always is a fun place to pop into.

Main Street has a great strip of independent retailers. Zettler Hardware has helped me out all year long. They have some info on their website ZettlerHardware.com. I’ve been able to pick up everything from a snow shovel to a garden hose nozzle to tomato cages for my garden to pumpkins to carve for halloween! Great to be able to buy this stuff so close to home from a family owned business. And parking in the lot next door is much easier than parking at Lowes!
